Amalaki Ekadashi 2024: Story

According to Hindu belief, the story related to Amalaki Ekadashi is quite popular. Once Mandhata asked Maharishi Vashishtha ji to narrate the story of such a fast which would help him attain salvation.

Then Maharishi Vashishtha ji, while narrating the story of Amalaki Ekadashi, said that there was a city named Vaidish in which four castes like Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra lived happily.

The sound of Vedas always echoed in that city. There was no sinner, evil-doer or atheist in that city. In that city there was the kingdom of a Chandravanshi king named Chaitrath.

He was very learned and religious. There was no miser or poor person in that city. All the townspeople were devotees of Vishnu and old men and women used to observe Ekadashi fast.

Once Amalaki Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month came. On that day, the king, the people, children and elders all observed Amalaki Ekadashi fast with great joy.

The king along with his subjects went to the temple and established a complete Kumbh and started worshiping Amla with incense, lamp, naivedya, Pancharatna etc.

And started praising it. Then a hungry hunter came there and he also sat and listened to the story attentively. After which he died a few days later.

After death, he was born in the house of a king and was full of food, wealth, strength and courage. Once when he got tired and took rest in the forest, the relatives of the people whom he had killed came to kill him.

Then the Goddess appeared there and the Goddess destroyed those people. When Raj opened his eyes, he asked who helped him.

Then a voice came from the sky that this is the result of your doing Amalaki Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu himself has protected you. Since then this fast started being observed.

By observing this fast all sins are destroyed. The fruit of this fast is equal to the fruit of one thousand Godan.
