Once upon a time, Maa Parvati and Lord Shiva were sitting near a river, when suddenly Maa Parvati expressed her desire to play Chaupar.

But the problem was that apart from those two, there was no third person who could play a decision – making role in the game.

Finding a solution to this problem, Lord Shiva and Parvati together made a clay idol and put life into it.

Both of them ordered the boy made of clay to watch the game carefully and decide who won and who lost.

The game started in which Maa Parvati ji was winning again and again by defeating Lord Shiva. The game continued but once by mistake the child declared Maa Parvati the loser.

This mistake of the child made Maa Parvati very angry due to which she got angry and cursed the child that the child would become lame and after which the child became lame.

The child apologized profusely to the Maa for his mistake and asked her to forgive him. Seeing the child requesting again and again, the Maa said that now the curse cannot be reversed but she can tell a solution by which he will be able to get rid of the curse.

While explaining the solution, Maa Parvati said that on the day of crisis, worship and follow the fast with true heart.

Knowing the method of fasting, the child observed the fast with full devotion and as per the complete procedure. Lord Ganesha was pleased with his true worship and appeared to that child. Lord Ganesha asked the boy about his wish.

Then the child expressed to Lord Ganesha his desire to go to Maa Parvati and Lord Shiva. Lord Ganesha fulfilled the boy’s demand and sent him to Shivlok, but when he reached there he found only Lord Shiva.

Maa Parvati got angry with Lord Shiva and left Kailash and went somewhere. When Lord Shiva asked the child how he came here, he told that he had received this boon by worshiping Lord Ganesha.

After knowing this, Lord Shiva also observed a fast to please Goddess Parvati, after which Maa Parvati, pleased with Lord Shiva, returns back to Kailash.
