  • Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.
  • Clean the house and especially the puja room.
  • Install the idol of Lord Ganesha by spreading a red cloth on a small platform.
  • Now offer incense, lamp and Nevaidya in front of Ganpati Bappa.
  • Along with this, offer red flowers, Durva, vermillion, modak, betel nut and perfume to Lord Ganesha.
  • Then chant Ganesh mantras and recite Ganesh Chalisa.
  • Finally, perform aarti of all the gods and goddesses along with Lord Ganesha.
  • After the puja is over, distribute Prasad among the people.

According to Hindu religion, Lord Shri Ganesha is invoked before starting any auspicious work, because Shri Ganesha is considered the first worshipable deity.

He is also the god of intelligence. Therefore, by worshiping Lord Ganesha properly on this day, every wish is fulfilled and happiness comes to the house.

According to religious mythology, the Chaturthi that comes after the full moon is known as Sankashti Chaturthi and the Chaturthi that comes after the new moon is known as Vinayak Chaturthi. On this day, he is pleased by worshiping him with rituals. 

According to Ganesh Purana, the effect of this fast brings good luck, prosperity and child happiness. According to Bhavishya Purana, by observing Sankashti Chaturthi fast, all kinds of troubles go away.

In religious scriptures, Chaturthi of Phalgun month is considered very auspicious, and the sixth form of Lord Ganesha is worshiped on this day. It is very auspicious to donate special things on this day. According to the belief, all the sorrows and sufferings of life end with this Chaturthi fast. 

Also on this day, chant the mantras of Shri Ganesh – ‘Shri Ganeshaya Namah’ and ‘Om Gan Ganapataye Namah.’ By chanting, he soon becomes pleased and bestows his blessings on his devotees.

What should not be offered to Lord Ganesha?

Apart from basil leaves, there are some other things which you should not offer to Lord Ganesha. Avoid offering white sandalwood, instead use yellow sandalwood for tilak. Lord Ganesha loves food. One should avoid offering dry and broken rice.
