The story of Kalashtami fast is found in mythology that once a dispute broke out between Lord Vishnu and Brahma ji as to who was the best. This dispute increased so much that all the gods became scared that annihilation was about to happen.

Then all the gods went to Lord Shiva and started looking for the solution and at the same time Lord Shiva organized a meeting and Lord Shiva present all the wise people, sages, saints etc.

in this meeting and along with I also invited Vishnu and Brahma ji. Lord Vishnu ji accepts a decision taken in the meeting, but Brahma ji is not satisfied. They start insulting Mahadev ji.

Calm minded Shiva could not bear this insult and after being insulted by Brahma, he assumed a fierce form. Lord Shankar started appearing in the form of Pralaya and seeing his fierce form all the three worlds got scared.

Lord Bhairav appeared from this Rudra form of Lord Shiva. He was riding on a dog, he had a stick in his hand. Because of the punishment in his hand he was called ‘Dandadhipati’. Bhairav ji’s form was extremely fierce.

He cut off the fifth head of Brahma Dev and then Brahma Dev realized his mistake. Thereafter the dispute between Brahma Dev and Vishnu Dev ended and he acquired knowledge which destroyed his pride and ego.
