C V Raman an ideal GuruSir Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman Raman, born in Tiruvannaikaval, Trichy, Tamil Nadu. He was the first Indian scientist. Who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930 for his discovery of the ‘scattering effect of light’.

Nobel laureate and an ideal guru, Dr. C.V. Raman was invited by the then President of India. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, to the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi for the investiture ceremony of conferring the ‘Bharat Ratna‘.

C V Raman wrote in reply, “Since my student who has completed his PhD course under my supervision has to face his oral examination on that date. I will not be able to come to Delhi in person. My presence here is a Will be a source of encouragement to my student”.

Dr. C V Raman was also an ideal disciple. While experimenting with discoveries in acoustics. (being a scientist) He consulted a doctor to obtain knowledge of the anatomy of the ear.

Overwhelmed by a call from a world renowned grand laureate, the doctor requested an appointment. CV Raman said, “Here you are my guru. Let me know about your convenient time”.

This humble approach led to many major scientific discoveries in acoustics, ultrasonics, optics, magnetism, and crystal physics.

Raman’s work on the musical drums of India was groundbreaking and highlighted the acoustic knowledge of the ancient Hindus. It may be noted here that it was Pythagoras who first devised what makes sound musical to the human ear.
