The Women Reservation Bill passed by Parliament last week has now become law. President of Bharat Draupadi Murmu has signed it. ‘The Nari Shakti Vandan Act provides 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha as well as state assemblies. This became the first bill to be passed in the new Parliament House. Whose name is Women Reservation Bill.

The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 20 September. In this, 454 members voted in favor and two against it. On 21 September, the Nari Shakti Vandan Act (Women Reservation Bill) was passed unanimously in the Rajya Sabha.

After the historic passage of the bill in Parliament, PT Usha, Union Minister Smriti Irani and Meenakshi Lekhi and other women MPs had expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Women Reservation Bill was earlier passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010 during the Congress-led UPA government. But it was not brought in the Lok Sabha and later it got repealed in the lower house of the Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this after the bill cleared legislative hurdles in both houses last week. That the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in Parliament will usher in an era of stronger representation and empowerment for women in the country.
