What is the rule of Ekadashi fast?
People observing Ekadashi fast have to follow some important rules from the day before Dashami i.e. first Ekadashi 2024. From the day of Dashami, devotees should not consume food items like meat, fish, onion, lentils and honey.
On both Dashami and Ekadashi days, people should observe complete celibacy and stay away from pleasures and luxuries.
Saphala first Ekadashi 2024
The first Ekadashi 2024 is falling on Sunday, January 7. Ekadashi tithi of Krishna Paksha of Paush month will start on 7 January at 12:41 AM and this tithi will end the next day on 8 January at 12:46 AM.
This is going to be Saphala Ekadashi. On the day of Saphala Ekadashi, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga is being formed from 7:15 am to 10:03 am. First Ekadashi 2024 can be worshiped in this yoga.
The fast of Saphala Ekadashi can be broken between 7:15 am to 9:20 am on Monday, January 8.

Need a picture or statue of Shri Vishnu jiTo make flowers, garland, coconut, betel nut, pomegranate, amla, plum, other seasonal fruits, incense, ghee, panchamrit, raw milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar are required, rice, basil, cow dung, banana tree, sweets are also required.
Saphala first Ekadashi puja
One wakes up early in the morning on the day of Saphala Ekadashi. After this, one takes bath and wears clean clothes and after that incense, lamp and fruits etc. are offered to God.
Yellow colored items have special significance on this day. Yellow clothes, yellow fruits, yellow flowers and yellow food are considered auspicious.
Coconut, betel nut, amla and pomegranate can be offered to Lord Vishnu on the day of Ekadashi. Apart from this, singing Bhajana of Shri Hari, reading Katha and singing Aarti is very auspicious on Ekadashi.
Why is it important to do Udyapana
Any fast is considered complete only when it is performed as per the rituals, Udyapan is also necessary because the witnesses of the fast we observe are all the gods, goddesses, yakshas, snakes etc.
In such a situation, through the puja and havan performed during Udyapan, all those gods and goddesses get their share, the donations made during this period help in completion of the fast and one gets the desired results.
Ekadashi fasting Udyapan
Food should be provided to Brahmins on the day of Ekadashi fast and on first Ekadashi Udyapan. No matter how big or small the puja is, all the devotees should perform it with devotion.
Udyapan of first Ekadashi fast should be done under the guidance of a qualified Acharya.In Udyapan, 12 Brahmins along with their wives are invited for the Ekadashis of 12 months. Keep rice filled in a copper urn during Udyapan puja.
Shodashopachar worship of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi maa is done by making an octagonal lotus. After the puja, Havan is performed and all the Brahmins are given fruit food and given clothes, donations etc.
