‘Narak Chaturdashi’ has great importance in Sanatan Dharma. It is believed that on this day Lord Yama is especially worshiped and a lamp is donated to please him.
According to another mythological belief, Lord Shri Krishna had killed Narakasura on the Chaturdashi day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. Shri Krishna had liberated the gods and sages from the terror of Narakasura. Therefore, Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated from that day onwards.
Why is Abhyanga snan done on Narak Chaturdashi?
Udaya Tithi is also celebrated on Narak Chaturdashi. The appearance is enhanced on the day of Narak Chaturthi. For which there is a tradition of bathing in the morning.
The process of taking bath by applying ubtan on the body before sunrise is called Abhyanga snan (bath). Let us know the right time to take Abhyanga bath.

Worship Vidhi of Narak Chaturdashi
- Wake up early in the morning on the day of Narak Chaturdashi, now before getting out of bed, pay obeisance to Dharti Mata. Then go to the toilet. After that wash your mouth with a mango toothbrush.
- On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, take bath before sunrise and wear clean clothes.
- Now clean the puja place thoroughly and bathe all the deities.
- On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, special worship is done in the Vaman form of Yamraj, Kali Mata, Lord Shiva, Shri Krishna, Hanuman ji and Vishnu ji.
- Install the idols of all these Gods and Goddesses in the north-east corner of the house and worship them properly.
- Light a Deepak (lamp) in the temple of the house and during Pradosh period, light a lamp at the main entrance or courtyard of the house.
- Light incense lamps in front of the deities, apply kumkum tilak and chant mantras.
- Light a lamp in the name of Yamdev and keep it outside the main door.
- After that the whole family sits together and eats food etc.
Benefits of Narak Chaturdashi
On Narak Chaturdashi, the god of death Yamraj and Shri Krishna are worshipped. Lamps are lit in the name of Yama in the evening.
Yamraj is pleased by lighting a lamp on Narak Chaturdashi and there is no fear of untimely death.
A lamp is lit near a drain located outside the house and a prayer is made to remove negative energy from the house.
On this day, if you light a mustard oil lamp and keep it at the main entrance. Then Goddess Lakshmi arrives. And his blessings remain throughout the year.
